Margaret: From Volunteer to Recruiter

Margaret DeMaioribus

Our newest staffer at KNOM is Margaret DeMaioribus, a volunteer alumna who’s returned to Nome, and our mission, to coordinate our current volunteer program, to reach out to our local community, and to recruit the next generation of KNOMers from colleges and universities.

Margaret and Josh, Full Circle

Margaret and Josh in Studio A

Volunteer alumni Margaret DeMaioribus and Josh Cunningham, who became close friends during their shared volunteer year, recently brought their service experiences full-circle through a special reunion trip to Nome.

Picking up the baton

As you read this, our newest full-time volunteers are busy acclimating to life in rural Alaska and diligently learning their new service tasks at KNOM. As you may have discovered in our August Static, we’re excited to welcome four new volunteers this year, and the first of these to arrive is new music director Emily […]

Meet Emily

KNOM volunteer music director Josh Cunningham has finished his year of service to KNOM. Picking up where Josh left off is our newest volunteer, Emily Bieniek. At his last staff meeting, Josh expressed how grateful he was for the opportunity to serve through KNOM – and how confident he was that Emily will carry forward the […]

“He lifts up the listener…”

We are blessed with the talent of five wonderful, full-time volunteers. Summer is always a time of transition, when our volunteers finish their service and help us welcome a new class of contributors. KNOM volunteer music director Josh Cunningham will be leaving soon. His outstanding service has included three hours of airtime each weekday as an afternoon DJ, […]

Farewell, Josh!

As we’ve said before in the Static, summer is a bittersweet time at KNOM Radio Mission, as we say goodbye to the wonderful volunteers who are completing their years of service. This month will be our last with music director Joshua Cunningham, who departs in early August after a year of outstanding work. From his […]

Prayers for Ezio, and the latest with our volunteers

We ask for prayers for Ezio Tozzi, father of KNOM board president Father Ross Tozzi, and the entire Tozzi family. May God richly bless and guide them. Thank you. All five KNOM volunteers are busy writing, producing and voicing exceptional radio programming. Eva DeLappe visited Nome’s Quyanna Care Center to cover the opening of the facility, […]

Transitions

Although our daylight hours are increasing, the final throes of winter are long in Western Alaska. With temperatures just below freezing, small pellets of ice and snow still fall from the sky. Cooler-than-normal temperatures are slowing the retreat of the ice and snow, the air is brisk, and you can hear the occasional crackling of sea […]

A special trip, in search of song

Volunteer Josh Cunningham recently took a very special trip as a correspondent for KNOM. Josh went to the southwestern Alaska city of Bethel for the Cama-i (chuh-MY) Dance Festival, one of the largest and most significant annual cultural celebrations in the state. KNOM regularly sends its full-time volunteers to cover important regional and local events […]
