A Special Retreat for Wellness

Youth leadership retreat, Unalakleet

Many individuals and organizations in rural Alaska are taking steps to address the tragically high rates of youth depression and suicide in our region. One recent example is a leadership retreat in the community of Unalakleet. Thanks to you, we brought the story of this unique, impactful youth gathering to our listeners.

Helping to Keep Alaska Clean

2015 e-Waste Pickup in Nome

A recent collection of “e-waste” in Nome was a singular opportunity for our community to make rural Alaska a cleaner place to live. We were happy not only to spread the word about this important community need but also to take part in it!

Listening to the Listeners

Sounding Board episode on listener feedback

For the last episode of this year’s season of Sounding Board, we invited our vast listening region to call in and tell us what they think about KNOM. We were heartened and energized by our listeners’ response.

Elim’s Eliza Katongan

In January, volunteers Kristin Leffler and Courtney Cousins went to Elim, Alaska, for a very special community gathering: elder Eliza Katongan’s 100th birthday party.

Still part of the family

Speaking of our facilities and equipment: we’d be remiss not to offer our thanks to Les Brown, the longtime volunteer engineer who, although retired from daily service at our mission, still contributes his considerable expertise and guidance to KNOM. Les (seen here at KNOM during his last visit to Nome, in 2011) has been part […]
