‘Dear Friend of KNOM’ (January 2019)

“As the calendars turn over from year to year, we see the slow and steady progress of the ministry of KNOM: taking root, growing branches and becoming an inviting place for shade, sharing and shelter.” Read the introduction to the January 2019 newsletter.

In Noorvik, a Governor’s Gala

Governor Dunleavy greets residents inside the Noorvik gymnasium.

It was a special honor for the rural community of Noorvik to be selected as the site for the inauguration of Governor Mike Dunleavy. When the day came and poor weather forced the swearing-in ceremony to happen elsewhere, Noorvik residents watched the event live-streamed from Kotzebue, then held their gala celebration once the weather cleared and the First Family finally landed. Were locals fazed by the delay? Not at all, reported volunteer fellow Katie Kazmierski, on location in Noorvik.

Birthday Gifts

Nome resident and KNOM listener Daniel Komok often stops by the station to socialize with staff and enjoy a cup of coffee. When his 60th birthday arrived, a few special gifts were waiting for him at the studio.

From the GM’s Desk (January 2019)

“Thank you for keeping the star of hope lit not just during the Advent and Christmas seasons, but into a new year as the light returns to the skies, casting out physical and spiritual darkness,” Margaret writes in the end-note to KNOM’s January 2019 newsletter.
