“YOURS FOR WESTERN ALASKA”

(907) 443-5221

What KNOM Has Meant

In their volunteer days (circa 1980s), Lynette and Ric Schmidt smile outside the old KNOM station building.

At the end of this month, we bid farewell to Ric Schmidt, KNOM’s longtime general manager. In his incredible career, Ric has left an indelible mark upon the KNOM mission and its region. With gratitude, we wish Ric every future blessing as he begins his retirement.

A Golden Accolade

KNOM AM/FM recently won an Alaska Broadcasters Association “Goldie” Award for its coverage of the 2016 Iditarod. As always, we’re honored to share the award with all whose support keeps KNOM on the air.

Preparing Servants’ Hearts

Margaret prepares the supper table with food cooked on a camp stove in a cabin without running water.

At the beginning of each service year, our year-long volunteers spend a weekend in retreat, preparing for the challenges and joys of the year to come.

One of the last projects of KNOM volunteer Emily Russell, prior to her departure from Nome, was to compile a series of photographs of Stebbins, Alaska, which she visited twice in her ’15-’16 term. It’s part of our new series, #FocusWesternAK.
