Recently, a series of inspirational messages — based on the incredible biographies of Western Alaskans — have graced KNOM’s airwaves. Thanks to you, our listeners have heard powerful stories of recovery: from addiction, despair, homelessness, isolation, and other problems endemic in the region.
The KNOM family grew by one just a few weeks ago, with the birth of the second son of Program Director Laura Collins and her husband, Jeff.
Last month, live coverage of Nome’s Memorial Day parade allowed KNOM to join with its local community in remembering and honoring the sacrifices of those who have served in the US military — especially those who gave their lives in defense of our nation.
Summertime brings to KNOM country the endless sunlight for which Alaska is famous. On the summer solstice, the sun will shine above Nome’s horizon for nearly 22 hours.
At the end of this month, we bid farewell to Ric Schmidt, KNOM’s longtime general manager. In his incredible career, Ric has left an indelible mark upon the KNOM mission and its region. With gratitude, we wish Ric every future blessing as he begins his retirement.
