State Troopers Report One Fatality from Residence Fire in Galena

In Galena, a structure fire has resulted in the death of one local resident.

According to Alaska State Troopers, just before 9am yesterday, their office was notified by the Galena Police Department about a house fire that occurred earlier that morning on Antoski Road. One person was reported unaccounted for during the fire and is suspected to be the lone casualty.

Earlier today, a Deputy Fire Marshal from Fairbanks arrived in the community of Galena to assist in the investigation. The State Fire Marshal’s office says local authorities located a body inside the burned-out residence, but the remains have not been identified yet.

Troopers say the investigation is ongoing while the State Medical Examiner’s Office performs an autopsy and confirms a positive I.D. of the deceased. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
