Municipal Election Results Authenticated, New Councilmen Set To Be Sworn In

Nome’s 2017 Municipal Election results have been canvassed and are now official.

The City Council convened a special meeting yesterday, specifically to pass a resolution to authenticate the election results.

According to City Clerk Bryant Hammond, there were 661 ballots cast in this year’s election after ruling out questioned ballots. Hammond says out of 11 questioned ballots, three of them were counted, and the rest were not for reasons like voter registration issues.

The election winners from Tuesday did not change in the final vote tallies.

All five Councilmen present for the meeting, including Tom Sparks, voted in favor of canvassing the election results. For his last official meeting as a City Councilman, Sparks essentially handed off his position to Adam Martinson, who was also in attendance.

Martinson and Doug Johnson will be sworn in as Councilmen during the next regular meeting on Monday at City Hall.
