Western Alaska’s high school boys basketball teams have dominated the 2025 ASAA State Championship tournament, bringing home titles across multiple divisions.

The Shaktoolik Wolverines captured the Class 1A state championship with a commanding performance throughout the tournament. Their defense and teamwork led them to their first-ever state title, marking a historic achievement for the school and the community.

The Unalakleet Wolfpack ended a nearly three-decade-long title drought by winning the Class 2A state championship. In an exciting final against Cordova, junior Isaac Smith emerged as a standout player, scoring 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead a comeback victory of 40-36. This win marks Unalakleet’s first state championship since 1996.

Facing the Sitka Wolves in the 3A championship, the Nome Nanooks came out victorious with a 62-43 win. This triumph marks Nome-Beltz’s third championship in four years.

These victories have sparked celebrations across Western Alaska, with communities honoring their athletes’ dedication and hard work.
