The village of Ambler, 45 miles above the Arctic Circle, is the main stop on the Kobuk 440 dogsled race. Volunteers at the checkpoint say it takes the whole village to make it happen.

NSEDC to Provide Rare Mid-Year Community Benefit Share

On May 10th, NSEDC’s Board of Directors approved a mid-year community benefit share of approximately $2 million, which will be spread to 15 communities. This is only the second time NSEDC has issued a mid-year benefit outside of its annual one provided in November.

Sexual assault and domestic violence have been discussed more frequently in Nome recently. Kawerak and the Bering Sea Women’s Group continued that public conversation earlier this month by hosting a regional wellness conference.
