Polaris Casualty Identified; Cause of Fire Under Investigation

63-year-old Bette Ann Haugen of Nome, a casualty of the Polaris fire, was recovered from the building debris on Tuesday night. As of Wednesday, a state investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze.
Nome City Council Approves Fuel Contracts, Project Bids, and New Emergency Services Technician

The City of Nome will pay Crowley $3.37 per gallon for unleaded vehicle fuel and $2.95 for diesel, but Bonanza will provide equipment fuel and heating oil. Also, the City Council approved a resolution to employ Quinten Johnson as the emergency services technician.

From the KNOM Archive, hear White Mountain’s Enid Lincoln this week on “Elder Voices.” Born in Solomon in 1950, Enid tells her story of growing up with her family in White Mountain; of boarding schools, a relocation to Dallas, Texas, and working with children to preserve the Fish River language and culture.
