The number of active COVID-19 cases in Nome has risen to seven, with two more residents testing positive yesterday.
Norton Sound Health Corporation says one of the latest cases is considered a close contact of a previously confirmed COVID-19 case. The second Nome resident tested positive through travel. Both patients are safely isolating, and public health officials have been notified of the two new cases.
This marks the seventh positive case of COVID-19 found in Nome within the last week. January 6th was when the first individual tested positive in this latest wave of cases.
There have been 295 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Norton Sound since the pandemic began, 288 of those are considered recovered.
NSHC is not accepting appointments for first doses of the Pfizer vaccine in Nome at this time due to a, “very limited supply of the doses.”
According to a spokesperson from NSHC, 1,519 people have received COVID-19 vaccinations in the region thus far.
