Councilman Gerald Brown said that he understood why Sitnasuak would be in favor of this ordinance, and if passed without changes, it (the ordinance) could be seen as limiting other business in Nome’s waters. Ukallaysaaq Tom Okleasik said he wouldn’t characterize the situation like that and reiterated his view that this tariff ordinance would encourage investments in the local economy and boost onshore infrastructure.
One Martinson on City Council, One Martinson on School Board, Unofficial Election Results Say
Unofficial vote tallies from Tuesday’s Municipal Election in Nome suggest most incumbents kept their seats, including Nome Mayor Richard Beneville. There were two exceptions: City Council Seat B challenger Doug Johnson, who defeated Louis Green Sr., and School Board Seat D challenger Sandy Martinson, who defeated Panganga Pungowiyi. In Tuesday’s only race with three candidates, Adam Martinson won for City Council Seat A.
