Nome Residents Continue Wait For Quintillion High-Speed Internet

Residents of Nome continue to wait to access high-speed internet through Quintillion’s fiber-optic cable, though a handful of business customers are now connecting to it.
Nearly 40 Graduates Recognized During 42nd Annual UAF Northwest Campus Commencement

As Northwest Campus offers unique classes and programs that are significant to the region, the commencement also featured two students who became certified in High Latitude Range Management related to reindeer herding, and six are now certified Nurse Aides. Six graduates received their associate degrees along with 15 students from Western Alaska who completed their general education diplomas (GEDs).

There are lots of new things happening these days at Nome’s branch of the University of Alaska–Fairbanks, including the campus buildings themselves, which have recently seen upgrades from multi-million-dollar renovation projects.
Focused on Climate Change, Governor of California Visits Nome

Governor Jerry Brown of California was in Nome earlier this week to witness hands-on climate change research in this area and learn about Native perspective on the environmental issue. Some of the people the Governor met were Sandy and Carleton Tahbone, Austin Ahmasuk, and Vera Metcalf.
