General Manager

This Nome-based general manager position oversees the 501(c)3 nonprofit and reports to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include leading and training staff on KNOM’s mission, values, and procedures; fostering community partnerships; overseeing operations for FCC compliance; overseeing maintenance of KNOM properties; and other leadership duties.

Business Manager

The business manager serves as the primary staff member responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of KNOM’s finances and handling and processing all incoming funds, including but not limited to individual donors, corporate underwriters, site lease clients, corporate matching gift companies, federal and state agencies, foundations, and other sources of revenue. The business manager’s supervisor is the general manager and works in close cooperation with the board treasurer. The business manager will be proficient in using the donor database, underwriting radio traffic software, and performing and/or overseeing bookkeeping and billing functions for all accounts payable and receivable. The business manager creates monthly reports, as directed, for KNOM Radio Mission, board of directors, treasurer of the board and the KNOM general manager.

Communications Director

The communications director is responsible for KNOM’s marketing and outreach, in collaboration with the General Manager and Development Director. This person produces the mission’s marketing and outreach materials, including the monthly newsletter, website and social media posts, ads, and merchandise. This person also assists the general manager in recruitment, particularly in outreach to prospective employees and interns.

News Director

The Nome-based news director coordinates all KNOM AM & FM news programming and content, ensuring all programs are consistent with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations as well as KNOM’s Mission. The News Director is the supervisor to reporter staff.

News Reporter

The Nome-based news reporter job is the entry-level core position and includes on-air work combined with other news duties. A high degree of job flexibility, respect and team orientation is required. Work hours vary with staffing and seasonal changes. Reporters are supervised by the news manager/director. Initially, this position will train to be proficient in both production and news, then specialize in news reporting in accordance with the employee’s professional development plan.


The Nome-based programmer/producer coordinates KNOM’s broadcast, ensuring all music, PSA’s and programs are consistent with KNOM’s mission and values and are presented creatively, professionally and sustainably. The programmer/producer is the supervisor of KNOM’s announcers, including staff and community DJs. The operations manager supervises program staff.

Program Assistant

The program assistant supports the radio station’s programming and on-air presence by working with the Program Director and other on-air staff. This includes maintaining the program logs, doing production, and acting as a backup on-air host.
