Sullivan calls federal infrastructure package important for Alaska

Nome Common Council prioritizes port and housing construction
The Nome Common Council voted on Jan. 24 to endorse four items to the Alaska legislature as part of the city’s Legislative Priorities Package. The package lets the state legislature know which projects the City of Nome wants the state to spend money on. It’s up to the state legislature, however, to decide which projects will actually receive state funding.
NJUS battles strong winds to restore power to Nome residents
Gale-force winds wracked Nome on the night of Dec. 28, resulting in blackouts across much of the city. But despite the conditions, Nome Joint Utility System linemen worked during the night to get power back to residents where possible.
Driving ATVs on state roads comes with strings attached
It will be legal to drive ATVs on state roads starting Jan. 1. In Nome, that means Front Street, Bering Street, Seppala Drive, Center Creek Road, the Nome-Beltz-Teller Highway and the Nome-Council Highway.
City of Nome honors longtime employee
At its Dec. 13 meeting, the Nome Common Council recognized emergency services dispatcher Jessica Saclamana for a decade of service to Nome. City Manager Glenn Steckman listed the ways Saclamana has gone above and beyond her duty over the course of her career.
