With NSEDC Funds, White Mountain Preps for New Water Tank

Thanks to over $200,000 in funds from NSEDC, the City of White Mountain will install a new 150,000-gallon water storage tank. This upgraded tank will replace the current leaky one which the city has used for about thirty years.

Yvonne Gregg, the Utilities Manager for White Mountain, says the city’s partnership with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium allowed them to get enough money to secure matching funds from NSEDC.

Gregg has been the Utilities Manager for about a year and a half. In that time, the current water storage tank has leaked twice. Gregg says it took approximately $8,000 to drain the tank and repair it with epoxy. Each time the tank was drained and repaired, Gregg says the community of White Mountain was without water for about two days.

Installation of the new water tank is expected to begin in the summer and take about 8 weeks. Bidding to find a contractor for the project has not yet started.
