February’s Only Nome City Council Regular Meeting to Focus on Budgets, Labor Contracts

For the first and last regular meeting of this month, the Nome City Council is set to sell the Old Museum and Library building on Front Street. The ordinance authorizing the sale of the property is in the second reading phase and is expected to pass during tonight’s meeting.

In other business, seven ordinances to amend City budgets are on the agenda, including the Port of Nome fund budget and the City of Nome general fund municipal budget. All of the budget ordinances were carried over from the last regular meeting which ended without a quorum of Councilmen present.

Before adjourning, the Council is expected to approve labor contracts between the Nome Joint Utility System, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Tonight’s meeting commences at 7pm in City Hall, following a work session to discuss amending the list of sales tax exemptions and exceptions.
