On Sunday evening, a resident of Golovin died after falling through the water outside of his community.
Alaska State Troopers (AST) received a report around 10:30pm Sunday evening that 27-year old Travis Fagerstrom had fallen in after water-skipping a 30-foot lead in the ice on his snowmachine.
Megan Peters, spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, cautions that water-skipping is dangerous, as is traveling on the ice during break-up season.
Searchers recovered Fagerstrom’s body on Monday at noon after using drag hooks. The State Medical Examiner has released his remains to the family.
