Yesterday, a non-resident of the Norton Sound region tested positive for COVID-19 in Stebbins.
Norton Sound Health Corporation says this will likely be classified as a travel-related case. According to a statement from NSHC, the individual’s positive test came up as a result of Stebbins’ quarantine and testing requirements.
The regional health corporation says the individual is safely self-isolating and their local contacts in the community have been limited.
NSHC says regional communities’ mandates on quarantining and testing have been, “exceedingly helpful in identifying positive cases and preventing further spread of the virus throughout the region.”
Stebbins’ local protocols require a 14-day quarantine for travelers coming into the community unless they receive negative COVID-19 test results before that two weeks is up.
Last month the local coronavirus response team shut down the road between Stebbins and neighboring St. Michael. Although that road is now open again, Stebbins is still prohibiting travel between the two communities from midnight to 8am every day.
