The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Norton Sound region has now reached double digits. The tenth case for the region was confirmed last night by Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC).
According to NSHC’s spokesperson, Reba Lean, the patient did not want to disclose information about their home community, however the state is reporting the individual was tested in Nome.
A press release from NSHC today indicates that the latest COVID-19 case is travel related. The patient is reportedly asymptomatic and is currently isolating.
With this new case confirmed last night, there are currently four active COVID-19 cases in the Norton Sound region. Half of those are NSHC employees.
Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome is closed Friday in observance of Independence Day. However, the hospital’s walk-in testing tent will still be open from 12:30pm to 4pm on Friday and from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday.
