In September, we got a ring on our door from Thomas Barr. In his coat pocket was a cassette tape that he said contained a profile KNOM did on him and his carving talents while he was living in Shishmaref in 2001.
We took the recording and plugged it into an old tape deck we keep for situations just like this. The tape has some scratches and imperfections from years of following Barr around the region - but what was on the tape felt timeless. Between shifts at Bering Air, Barr still carves to this day.
