There are now 27 active cases of COVID-19 in Stebbins after four more individuals in the community tested positive for the virus yesterday. This is at least the fourth day in a row that new cases of COVID-19 have been identified locally.

Norton Sound Health Corporation announced the latest cases this morning, which brings Stebbins’ total to 46. NSHC did not say whether or not these patients were close contacts of previous cases locally.

Stebbins continues to be on full lock down and residents are being encouraged to avoid individuals from other households for three weeks.

The regional health corporation also identified a non-resident of the Norton Sound who tested positive and traveled to Unalakleet. NSHC says the individual is safely isolating at this time. With this newest case, the City of Unalakleet is reminding all travelers coming from Anchorage to have a negative COVID-19 test in hand before they arrive in that community. The test must be taken within 72 hours of arrival.

The Norton Sound region now has a total of 157 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 33 are currently active while 124 are considered recovered.
