Traveler Tests Positive for COVID-19 Upon Arrival Into Nome, Fifth Non-Resident Case

The Norton Sound Region has now recorded 25 positive cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The newest case is a non-resident of the region who tested positive in Nome yesterday.

Norton Sound Health Corporation announced last night that the incoming traveler who tested positive is safely isolating. NSHC did not specify which community the patient is currently located in, but again, said the individual tested positive for the virus while in Nome.

With this latest case, 25 total cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the region since early April. According to NSHC’s count, a fifth of those are non-residents.

The regional health corporation encourages anyone traveling into Nome or the Norton Sound region to follow local quarantine protocols.

The City of Nome has travel and quarantine requirements of its own, which includes having all airline passengers coming into Nome fill out a travel form.
