A Kotzebue man was successfully located Sunday after a search-and-rescue effort was launched.
According to Alaska State Troopers (AST), early Sunday afternoon, 33-year-old Floyd Reed was reported overdue from a snowmachine trip between Buckland and Kotzebue.
Two ground search teams were dispatched from the two communities. AST also contacted off-duty Wildlife Trooper James McGinnis, who had recently returned from a weekend trip in his personal airplane. McGinnis reported seeing a set of snowmachine tracks on Kobuk Lake.
Ground teams then used this information to locate Floyd in the same area around four hours after the initial report. He was uninjured.
