Gambell Sewer Main Remains Unfixed After Months; Bypass in Place

A sewer main in Gambell that was damaged in September remains unfixed heading into winter. A bypass is in place and can be winterized if immediate repair of the line is impossible. Permanent repairs may have to wait until May 2018 or even later.

Residents of six Norton Sound villages can expect to see high-speed terrestrial broadband coverage from GCI by the end of 2017, the company says.

The District Attorney in Nome, John Earthman, reminded the courtroom that Rayne Aukongak had a prior conviction from 2011 for similar charges to what he faces now. Judge Romano DiBenedetto ultimately decided to sentence Aukongak to serve one consecutive year for each count against him, adding up to a flat sentence of four years.
Troopers Arrest Mountain Village Resident After Alleged Assault Against a VPO

According to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch, Georgianna Hanson of Mountain Village drove an ATV into an oncoming ATV, which was being driven by a VPO. Hanson was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree for the ATV incident, and then assault in the fourth degree for allegedly assaulting a second VPO during her arrest.
