Fiscal year 2018 City budgets could be passed by the Nome City Council tonight. Seven ordinances regarding different City budgets are all in the second reading phase.

If the Council passes the Nome General Fund Municipal budget, then the total expenditure will be slightly over $12 million for FY ‘18.

Also in the second reading phase is an ordinance authorizing the purchase of property from Arctic Gold Mining, and another to lease municipal property to Alaska Marine Lines.

For $25,000, the City of Nome could buy Lot 2 in the Tundra Lakes Subdivision from Arctic Gold. Through a five-year lease agreement, Alaska Marine Lines would pay the City almost $1,700 a week, if the ordinances are passed during tonight’s regular meeting.

Before the City Council adjourns, Mayor Beneville is expected to appoint a candidate to fill a vacant Port Commission seat. The Council meets tonight at 7pm in Council Chambers.
