Inupiaq speakers from across Western Alaska are furthering their language skills through a two-week-long Inupiaq language intensive in Utqiagvik.
From Monday through Friday, this week and next, participants will take daily classes at Ilisagvik College in Utqiagvik, engage with community elders, and have regular homework assignments. Second language learners Cordelia Kellie and Reid Magdanz are facilitating the course.
The language intensive utilizes published Inupiaq texts and daily knowledge checks in order to achieve quick progress within the two weeks. Before departing Utqiagvik, participants will also take two graded quizzes.
All of the students taking part in the language intensive offered at Ilisagvik are 18 years or older.
