One Fatality Reported after Search & Rescue Near Emmonak

A fatality has been reported after a search and rescue near the community of Emmonak over the weekend.

On Saturday, May 6th, Alaska State Troopers received a report that a man had suffered head and back injuries near the coastline at Middle Mouth, after two individuals had traveled to that location Saturday morning.

A local search and rescue team, with support from Grant Aviation, located the individuals and dropped supplies. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter followed suit and transported the two to Nome.

Troopers report 54-year-old Martin Moore, Jr., of Emmonak died due to his injuries. An investigation is currently ongoing, and next of kin has been notified. His remains will be examined by the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage.
