After a weekend at the Native Youth Olympics (NYO) statewide games in Anchorage, Bering Sea regional youth walked away with a variety of awards.
Nome sent eight of their 17 NYO athletes to compete at the state level, four male and four female. Emily Pomrenke, Kimberly Clark, and Aaron Rose brought home medals in the knee jump, wrist carry, Alaskan high kick, and scissor broad jump.
Medals were also given to:
- Ashley Mute of Bethel: second place, high kick
- Arrianna Smith of Bethel: second place, kneel jump
- Miya Page of Kotzebue: fifth place, Eskimo stick pull
- Clevon Constantine of Bethel: second place, Eskimo stick pull
The Lower Kuskokwim School District was ranked number four in top overall teams, and the coveted Gloria Walker Team Sportsmanship Award went to Dillingham.
