Over the weekend, a stranded snowmachiner south of Bethel was rescued by the U.S. Army National Guard and Alaska State Troopers.
Saturday night, just before 11pm, Troopers in Bethel received a report that Basil Andrew of Chefornak had requested rescue after his snowmachine sunk in a lake northeast of Kongiganak. A National Guard helicopter with crew and one State Trooper began their search for 32-year-old Andrew the next morning.
Around 8am Sunday, according to Troopers, Andrew was found in good condition. He was transported to Bethel, where he declined medical treatment.
