24 racers competed in the seventh annual Gunner 120 Memorial Snowmachine Race, put on by the Arctic Circle Racing Association in Kotzebue, this past weekend. The top-placed finisher took home almost $3,000 in prize money.
Out of three classes, the overall fastest competitor was Elizabeth Sours, who took 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 27 seconds to race from Kotzebue to Noorvik and back. Sours rode in the open class, beating Katrina Carter by less than 30 seconds. Carter received $1,300 in prize money, while Sours brought in $2,800 for being the fastest racer overall.
In this all-women’s race, Trisha Parker took first in the fan cooled class by crossing the finish line in 1 hour, 44 minutes, and 43 seconds. She won $1,550 in prize money, while Stacy Jack took home $1,700 for winning the 0-600 B Class with a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes, and 38 seconds.
The first through third place finishers in each class received at least $600 each. Qutan Jade Lambert won $870 for finishing third in the fan cooled class and for being the rookie of the race.
