Tonight’s Nome City Council meeting involves discussion of some unfinished business. One such topic is a policy on holding elected or appointed office while employed by the City.
Also on the docket is a new ordinance regarding the ban of burning certain types of material within city limits, a topic that was suggested during the last City Council meeting on July 25th. Some concerned citizens have taken to Facebook to express issues about the potential ordinance. A petition has been drafted urging the council to only ban the burning of garbage, define what qualifies as garbage, and impose no other restrictions that would affect fire pits, burn barrels, smokehouses, or grills. The first reading of the proposed trash burning ordinance is scheduled for tonight’s meeting.
The last piece of new business on the City Council’s agenda relates to reallocating funds for the development of the Thornbush Subdivision. Previous planning commission minutes from June and July will be addressed as well.
Monday’s City Council meeting will commence at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers.
