The search for Nome resident Joseph Balderas will continue today.
According to Alaska State Troopers, the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Park Service have been helping in the effort to find Balderas. On Wednesday, a chartered R44 helicopter and a super cub plane from the National Park service searched the area from the air.
On the ground, nearly two dozen searchers on ATVs and on foot scoured the tundra in addition to the Fairbanks PAWS dog teams. The dogs found a slight trace of his scent, but it was unable to be followed.
Though the Coast Guard is now discontinuing their search, Troopers report that efforts will continue without the use of a chartered helicopter.
