In Wednesday’s news:

  • Nome Public Schools 5th & 6th graders are behind in reading;
  • Alaska Natives from North Slope meeting with Obama officials this week;
  • Alaska Native language preservation initiative present at the UAF Northwest Campus;
  • Old Wein Building in Nome now in monofill.
*Editors note for Nome Public Schools story:
-Keith Conger chose to teach thirty students in his reading class, allowing Rochelle Bushey to teach reading to 19 intensive students.
-Superintendant Mike Brawner says that the district hired another teacher this year for 5th & 6th grades. Last year, they had four teachers; this year they have five.
