“The Iditarod is the ultimate challenge”: that’s according to Iditarod rookie and Unalakleet resident William “Middie” Johnson, who spoke with KNOM’s Laureli Kinneen earlier this week.
Laureli will be on the trail throughout Iditarod 2010. She caught up with Johnson at Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla; they were both there for the vet check, in which official Iditarod veterinarians make sure mushers’ dogs are in top shape before the 1,000-mile race.
Laureli spoke with a few Western Alaskan rookies at the vet check, including Middie Johnson and Bethel’s Pete Kaiser. Hear more on their outlook for their first Iditarod:
You’ll be hearing lots more from Laureli throughout the race; she’ll be following the lead mushers on their long journey across Alaska to the finish line in Nome!
