After Arctic Council Meeting, Beneville Says Western Alaska is “Opening to the World”

For the tenth Ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council, which took place last week in Fairbanks, Nome mayor Richard Beneville represented the local municipality as a member of a group of many other mayors from different Arctic towns. This group is known as the Northern Mayors, which Beneville says he was humbled to be a part of.

KNOM’s Davis Hovey and Mayor Beneville discussed the purpose of this group and some of the final resolutions that were passed. Beneville also has a significant announcement for the people of Nome that came out of this Arctic Council, regarding a major conference now slated for the city in 2021:
