Hear stories about Council, Nome, and White Mountain from Velma Brown in this week’s Elder Voices. In this episode, originally from 2011, Velma shares memories from her childhood. She remembers going to school in Nome, taking care of her siblings, getting head lice, and receiving a very exciting gift of hard candy.

Velma also recounts the hardships of her life, like her struggle with alcohol addiction. In the end, her story is one of hope and recovery. She devoted herself to being a strong and caring mother to her children.
