Emmonak VPSO Arrested on Assault Charges

NOME, Alaska — A village public safety officer (VPSO) from Emmonak was arrested Wednesday for pointing a firearm at three residents of the community.

Alaska State Troopers say they responded to the incident on April 15 and their investigation led to the arrest of 68-year-old Jay Leroy Levan.

According to Troopers, Levan is currently employed by the Association of Village Council Presidents as a VPSO in Emmonak.

Levan was arrested in Anchorage and charged with three counts of third-degree assault and one count of official misconduct.
