Norway’s Ulsom Wins Iditarod
Last month marked another running of Alaska’s epic, 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. 2018 brought a fresh face to the roster of race champions — and saw KNOM volunteer alumni on the trail, both as reporters and even as a competitor.
The Epic Iditarod Returns
KNOM has covered the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race each year since its inception in 1973. The 2017 Iditarod was a red-letter year both for its competitors and for our mission and its listeners.
Covering Iditarod 2016
The 2016 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race saw more than 70 teams make the 1,000-mile trek from Anchorage to Nome, traversing Alaska’s vast wilderness. Thanks to you, we covered the race for our listeners, just as we’ve done since its inception in 1973.
A Story 50 Years in the Making
In the 1960s, the US government almost detonated nuclear bombs (for civil engineering purposes) near Point Hope, Alaska. The legacy of this halted plan and what happened instead prompted a very unique reporting trip this summer, undertaken by news reporter Zachariah Hughes.
