Nearly 40 Graduates Recognized During 42nd Annual UAF Northwest Campus Commencement

As Northwest Campus offers unique classes and programs that are significant to the region, the commencement also featured two students who became certified in High Latitude Range Management related to reindeer herding, and six are now certified Nurse Aides. Six graduates received their associate degrees along with 15 students from Western Alaska who completed their general education diplomas (GEDs).

There are lots of new things happening these days at Nome’s branch of the University of Alaska–Fairbanks, including the campus buildings themselves, which have recently seen upgrades from multi-million-dollar renovation projects.

Experts from throughout Alaska gathered in Nome last week to discuss marine mammals and potential responses to different types of emergencies that may happen in the Bering Sea.

National Weather Service observations show that, since 1900, water temperatures in the Bering Sea between June and August have been gradually rising. With that in mind, NWS says a weak to moderate La Niña is possible in Alaskan waters this winter.
