Unalakleet Cooperative Works to Restore Power to Residents After Break in Electrical Line

According to Unalakleet’s Valley Electric Cooperative (UVEC) general manager Reese Huhta, around 9:45 Friday morning, the Cooperative became aware of a break at the wind farm. Technicians attempted to perform a bypass on the line, which was unsuccessful. A line technician is being flown in from Golovin to conduct a repair.

Marshall, Mountain Village, Russian Mission, and St. Mary’s were without wireless, internet, or long distance service for three days. According to GCI’s senior director of corporate communications, Heather Handyside, services were restored on Saturday.

Power for most of Diomede was restored Wednesday after five days of downtime. The exact cause of the community-wide outage remains unknown.
