Pilgrim Update: Harvest Time

65 miles north of Nome, an improbable farming effort has borne its first fruits (and vegetables). The sub-Arctic harvest at Pilgrim Hot Springs — and the joy locally-grown vegetables have brought to Western Alaskans — was the focus of a recent episode of KNOM’s “Dearest Alaska.”

Join us on this month’s episode as we aerate soil, pluck potatoes, snip broccoli, and pluck carrots with Pilgrim Produce, an agricultural pilot program from Unaatuq, LLC, at Pilgrim Hot Springs.

Pilgrim Produce hopes to have a weekly farmer’s market stand within Nome city limits starting up on Saturdays sometime this summer. According to Robert Bensin with BSDC, more information about the vegetables for sale, the selling times, and the stand location will be forthcoming.
