Nome School Board Backs Statewide Education Plan
The Nome Public Schools (NPS) Board of Education signed on to Alaska’s statewide education strategic plan at its regular meeting Tuesday evening.

Tom Moran explained that Mason Evans, the interested buyer, plans to turn the old museum and library building into a retail marijuana dispensary. Councilman Mark Johnson took issue with selling the historic building for the purposes of furthering the marijuana industry in Nome, but the rest of the Council voted in favor of selling the property.

During their regular meeting at City Hall, the Council will also deliberate on one new ordinance and two resolutions. In the first reading phase is an ordinance to adopt tariff #14 which aims to revise and replace all existing tariffs at the Port of Nome.

All four present councilmen voted in favor of the nearly $68,000 ground-penetrating radar survey agreement. The only other piece of business on the Council’s agenda also passed unanimously. Through a resolution, the Council declared February as School Board recognition month in Nome.
