For years, growing up on the Alaskan island of Little Diomede, Etta Tall wondered about what life was like just 2.4 miles away, on Russia’s Big Diomede, where her grandfather grew up. Now, thanks to a special reunion, “I don’t wonder anymore,” she says.

Students from around Western Alaska worked with park rangers and scientists, at the Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, to take stock of plants and animals found in the remote preserve. There was also plenty of time for crafts, games, and ghost stories.
