UAF Storm Surge Research Project Underway in Coastal Communities Facing Erosion

With the future probability of winter storms and the threat of flooding and erosion in coastal communities like Shaktoolik, UAF’s Jeremy Kasper hopes that the storm surge sensors will contribute to more accurate weather and storm forecasts, which could help community preparedness.
NOAA Monitoring Technology Available for 2018 Fishing Season

Starting in 2018, NOAA Fisheries will integrate cameras and sensors to record and monitor fishing activities, something usually done by human observers onboard commercial fishing vessels. According to NOAA, participation in electronic monitoring is voluntary.

The Alaska Beluga Whale Committee, the North Slope Borough, and NOAA Fisheries’ Alaska Fisheries Science Center are collaborating on aerial surveys of the Eastern Bering Sea as well as near the Yukon River Delta until June 29th.
