Farewell to Our ‘16 Volunteers

Summertime at KNOM is a bittersweet confluence of happy greetings and difficult goodbyes. This month, we’re saying a final “Godspeed” to the four outstanding people who’ve just departed Nome for points south: our 2015-16 volunteers Maddie, Emily, Laura, and Mitch, who consistently went above and beyond in serving the people of Western Alaska this year.

Covering Iditarod 2016

The 2016 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race saw more than 70 teams make the 1,000-mile trek from Anchorage to Nome, traversing Alaska’s vast wilderness. Thanks to you, we covered the race for our listeners, just as we’ve done since its inception in 1973.

Cheer, Even Amid Challenge

Our 2015-16 volunteers, like so many of their predecessors, are embracing a tradition of selfless service during the holidays, banding together with each other — and with our communities — as they spend the holidays away from their hometowns and family.

A Joyful Visit to Alaska’s Far West

Volunteer producers Maddie and Mitch recently traveled to the community of Wales for one of our region’s most notable annual events: the Kingikmiut Dance Festival, which brings together practitioners of traditional Alaska Native music and storytelling from throughout KNOM country.
