“YOURS FOR WESTERN ALASKA”

(907) 443-5221

‘Dear Friend of KNOM’ (Christmas 2018)

“Stay awake! Prepare! Rejoice! Hail Mary! These exclamations for each of the four weeks of Advent become the basis for hope when pressed against the snowy darkness of Western Alaska,” reads the introduction to KNOM’s Christmas newsletter.

Farewell, Froehles!

We wish Gretchen and Deacon Bob Froehle many happy years in Anchorage. The two spent 16 years in Nome and were active leaders both at St. Joseph Catholic Church and at KNOM.

The Teenager Who Flew Around the World

Rural Alaskans are frequently in the company of outstanding pilots, but when Mason Andrews arrived in Nome in late September, he was exceptional even by local standards.

Good News in the Air

As of autumn 2018, transportation for the remote community of Diomede is on course for improvement: the village is finally included in the FAA’s Essential Air Service program.

Friends and Companions

KNOM’s community deejays share their voices and musical expertise simply because they enjoy it. Their service provides about $10,000 worth of donated labor each year — and we know KNOM’s listeners appreciate their heart-filled efforts!

From the GM’s Desk (Christmas 2018)

“This season, we prepare to celebrate the arrival of the light of the world in the darkest of months… Prayers of peace and joy to you this Christmas,” writes Margaret DeMaioribus in the end-note to KNOM’s Christmas newsletter.
