Bio
Karen Trop grew up with a topographical map of Alaska hanging proudly in her Macungie, PA home so it’s no wonder she had to eventually visit and see what all the fuss was about!
Karen first worked at KNOM as part of its volunteer program from 2016-2018, working on producing PSAs and “Dearest Alaska” and “Caught Doing Something Good.” In 2018 she started a Masters degree in Information Science but Nome called again when she returned to the station in 2020 as Program Assistant, then Program Director. One of her proudest accomplishments of her career was being awarded the “Best Covid-19 Response” from the Alaska Broadcasters Association for KNOM’s programming efforts during that difficult time.
She has worked at New Hampshire Public Radio as their Operations Manager and as KTNA’s General Manager in Talkeetna, AK before coming back home to work in Nome as the Community Relations Manager in 2026.
Her favorite after-work activities include reading, listening to pop music (without shame!) and riding her bike around town.
