Two stranded boaters, dog rescued by Nome helicoper crew

Two overdue boaters and their dog were rescued Tuesday after their vessel became stuck in icy water about 75 miles east of Kotzebue, according to the Alaska National Guard.

A Nome-based UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter was dispatched to the boaters’ reported location. Two emergency medical technicians from the Nome Volunteer Fire Department accompanied the flight crew.

When the helicopter crew reached the area they spotted the two boaters and dog sheltering in a nearby cabin, according to the release.

The Black Hawk crew landed in an open area of tundra and picked up the stranded boaters. They were flown to Kotzebue and released to the Alaska State Troopers without any apparent injuries.
