Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kiewit Corporation and City of Nome held a ground-breaking ceremony for the Port of Nome Modification Project on September 2, 2026.
The project is being overseen by the Corps, with Kiewit serving as the primary contractor. Phase 1A of the project is expected to begin in earnest next spring. The first phase will expand the port’s causeway and is expected to cost about $400 million.
